How To Handle Your Thoughts?

I think one of the biggest problems that people have in today’s modern society is their thoughts. Most of the people are so identified with their thoughts, that they now think, they are their thoughts. In reality, you are not your thoughts, but you create them.

If you are in this waking state, I would say that 85 % of your thoughts right now are unconscious and some of them are karma. Only when you think, for example, to find a solution to a problem, then these thoughts are conscious thoughts, you see? Because most of your thoughts are unconscious, it’s very important to not identify with them. Sometimes a thought comes up and you say: “what the heck am I thinking?”, you have probably experience that.

Don’t identify with thoughts, they will naturally fade away. Just be aware of them and they will float away like clouds in the sky. It’s very important not to fight them because you will lose, it’s your own creation and if you think you won against a thought, you lost it.

When you have negative thoughts, don’t try to bend them into positive thoughts because you will go crazy. Just let them float away, don’t identify with them. It may be difficult in the beginning because you were identified with your thoughts all your life. The first step is to become aware of your thoughts. When you become more aware, you will try to ‘block’ negative thoughts. It’s like a thought comes up and you cut it because you know it’s a negative one. Don’t do that, you will create headaches.

Meditation is an excellent way to become aware of your thoughts because there is less information that you have to handle and they easier to observe them. Just close your eyes and become aware of your thoughts without getting identified with them. Don’t let them control you.
